Dr. Cory Gaunt
Hello, and thanks for your interest in Downriver Smiles. For the past 10 years, I have been honored to serve my patients at this office in the beautiful Audubon neighborhood. I was born at Sacred Heart and spent my entire childhood in Spokane. I owe that to my parent’s decision to move up from California so my mom could go to dental hygiene school here at Eastern Washington University. And while having a dental hygienist as my mother may seem like the start of my eventual journey to dentistry, it actually began with her father who was a dentist. He practiced in a time before masks and gloves, and my mom distinctly remembers handling mercury with her bare hands while working for him in high school! Fortunately, she still has all of her fingers. My grandfather had a servant’s heart and throughout his career, he prioritized service ahead of profits. The incredible legacy he left of Christ-like love and service has left a distinctive and lasting mark on our family. My own vocational journey was very much inspired by his and my parent’s example of love, generosity, and greatness of heart.
I grew up on the north side of Spokane by Wandermere golf course and went to Meadow Ridge Elementary, Mead Middle, and Mt. Spokane High School. I then went on to Western Washington University and finally Midwestern University for dental school. Along the way I met and married my wife Athena, and we have been blessed with two boys and four girls. They are truly the delight of our life. It has been a dream come true to be able to come back home to Spokane and give back to the community that gave so much to me.
My passions in dentistry are wide-ranging. Even as a child I always wanted to be a doctor, so I have been able to find a lot of fulfillment in dentistry by expanding the scope of my practice to provide my patients with comprehensive treatment options. In addition to my basic dental school education, I have studied and trained under some of the leading experts in areas such as dental implants, mini implants, endodontic microsurgery, connective tissue grafting, non-surgical endodontics, clear aligner therapy, and cosmetic dentistry. I am continually looking for ways to improve in all areas of dentistry because I value excellence in my work. I also value justice and feel it’s my obligation to practice dentistry at the highest level possible to ensure lasting quality. In order to help achieve those aims, I abide by the highest standards and only use high-end products and materials. It is my promise to you that I will always provide you with the same attention to detail and accuracy as I would for my own family.
In my free time, I enjoy playing cards with my wife, wrestling with my kids, camping, movie nights, sports, music, watching the Seahawks, reading, philosophical discussions, large family and friend gatherings, hosting, and taking part in various church ministries. My kids range in age from 3 to 15, so as you may imagine a lot of our life is centered around various family activities. My family and my faith are the two things that bring me the greatest joy and fulfillment in life. They are the things that give my life the greatest meaning and direction as well.
Thank you for taking the time to research our office. I sincerely look forward to having the opportunity to serve you as your dentist.
